Dr. Michael Lucas - Principal Dentist

Dr Michael Lucas graduated from Adelaide University in 1994. From here his passion for dentistry became stronger and stronger being the youngest dentist to hold a position within the Committee of South Australia Cosmetic Dental Society and the South Australian Oral Implantology Society.

After 12 years of growing his practice from 6 staff to 18 staff, Dr Michael Lucas in 2005 along with his wife Dr Tania Lucas opened up Adelaide’s largest solo dental practice, their dream! A practice which stood out from the rest and a practice where they could perform the highest level of comprehensive dentistry most other dentists could only think about.

Dr Michael Lucas has been in general practice for over 20 years and has special interests in providing complex dental care including such treatment as implants, crowns, veneers and bridges.

Dr Michael Lucas is well known throughout the profession as a dentist who does not compromise his treatment, but offers the best there is to offer and is also able to tailor treatment to suit the individual. He prides himself on spending time at the consultation appointment to educate and explain to his patients exactly what is going on.

He believes in being proactive in looking after your mouth in order to keep you smiling and chewing throughout all your life. “Just because you’re getting on in age, it doesn’t mean you have to have ugly looking teeth”.

Dr Michael Lucas also has a strong passion for the sea, which lead him to follow another love and find a balance in his life which involves being on the sea as well as in the surgery. Profishing Charters SA was created in 2008 and has become one of Adelaide’s most successful fish chartering businesses. We always wonder where Dr Michael Lucas finds the time between doing dentistry to running fishing charters, but we know for sure that he always has time for his lovely wife Tania and their three children.

Dr. Tania Lucas - Principal Dentist and Special Interest in Orthodontics and Invisalign

Dr Tania Lucas completed her bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of Adelaide in 1996. Since graduation Tania has been devoted to the art of dentistry and her professional passion is creating and enhancing beautiful smiles.

Dr Tania Lucas has been practicing amalgam free (no mercury) dentistry since 1999 and through years of continued post graduate education has developed advanced restorative skills using bonded resin, computerised Cerec porcelain inlays and laboratory crafted ceramic veneers and crowns.

Dr Tania Lucas's passion for cosmetic dentistry has also led her to the field of orthodontics, in which she has a special interest. Dr Tania Lucas is a fully accredited Invisalign provider with advanced training and has also been admitted as a Fellow of the International College of Continuing Dental Education (ICCDE) following exams successfully taken at the end of her 2 year comprehensive orthodontic training with the worldwide Progressive Orthodontic Seminars.

Dr Tania Lucas is also experienced in wisdom teeth removal and performs surgery under IV sedation with the assistance of a visiting anaesthetist. She is committed to continuing education and regularly travels interstate to further her knowledge in both general dentistry and orthodontics.

Besides dentistry, Dr Tania Lucas enjoys spending time with her husband Dr Michael Lucas and their three children.

Dr Mathew Dawson - Dentist

Dr Mat Dawson completed his bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of Adelaide in 1997. He spent the first four years after graduation interstate and overseas before settling back home.

A dentist for over 17 years, Dr Mat Dawson has been part of Lucas Dental for 12 years. Professionally, Dr Mat Dawson prides himself on performing all aspects of modern dentistry. His special interests include cosmetic dentistry and dental makeovers. Nothing makes him smile more than improving smiles and building fillings that look just like teeth.

Dr Mat Dawson also specialises in full dentures, particularly people who need to make that move from having all their teeth out and dentures provided. Approachable and friendly, Dr Mat Dawson is always happy to discuss options and tailor solutions to every individual’s needs. Whether you want to build a perfect smile or just have that bad tooth removed, he can always help.

Out of dentistry, Dr Mat Dawson is a devoted family man with his wife and two young boys. On weekends, he can be found racing bicycles at Findon Cycle Speedway (there are two current National Champs in the family), coaching his boys soccer team at Croydon Kings and sitting behind the goals at every Adelaide United game.

Dr Nicole Dodd - Dentist

Dr Nicole Dodd completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of Adelaide in 2013, and is enthusiastic and passionate about all areas of dentistry. She believes good oral health starts with prevention and understands every individual is unique, and will have different needs and requirements throughout their lifetime.

Her approach is gentle and caring, whilst providing the best possible service for all patients and their families, young and old.

Continued education is important to Dr Nicole Dodd and she regularly attends study groups and courses to further her knowledge and skills in the every-improving field of dentistry.

Outside of dentistry, Dr Nicole Dodd enjoys spending time walking the trails in the Adelaide foot hills with her Golden Retriever, Will. She also enjoys playing tennis and netball, water-skiing, cooking and has tried her hand at many facets of art – some more successfully than others!

Dr Raena Tabesh - Dentist

Dr Raena Tabesh graduated in Bachelor of Dental surgery with first class honours from University of Adelaide. Her academic research was about computer designed ceramic crowns which is published in the international journal of prosthodontics. She has been tutoring 2nd and 4th year dentistry students of University of Adelaide.

Raena joined Lucas Dental team in January 2017 where she enjoys offering full scope of general dentistry. Her particular interests lie with aesthetic and restorative dentistry using state of the art advanced technologies.

Raena is a passionate dental practitioner who takes pride in delivering high quality treatment in gentle manner. She believes in importance of spending time treating patients with anxiety to ensure providing stress free experience. Her focus is on building relationships, beautifying smiles and making positive changes in the lives of her clients.

Raena is enthusiastic about educating her clients, helping them understand the existing situation of their oral health and available treatment options to achieve their functional and aesthetic goals. She regards it as a privilege to be able to treat people for long term oral health wellbeing.

To further her dental expertise and stay at the cutting edge of technology, Dr Raena regularly attends to dental conferences, lecture and seminars of continuing education.

Outside dentistry Dr Raena enjoys painting, reading and designing craft wood home accessories with her husband.

Michelle Kuss - Dental Hygienist & Tooth Whitening Consultant

Michelle graduated from Gillies Plains TAFE, South Australia in 1986 with an Associate Diploma Dental Hygiene and has since extended her qualifications in Local Anaesthesia, Temporary Restorations and Tooth Whitening. She has worked in private general practices in SA, NSW, Victoria and the UK.

She has spent several years and is currently a clinical tutor at the University of Adelaide for the Bachelor of Oral Health degree.

She has been active in her professional associations and is a current member of DHAA – National and SA branch. As SA Association President in 1992, she attended the international Symposium in The Netherlands.

Michelle has a strong belief in preventive and minimal intervention dentistry and loves powered toothbrushes and the power of floss.

Michelle is married and enjoys spending time away from gums with her husband and son. She has been very involved with her son’s school, loves travel, bushwalking and cooking. She is hoping to sneak a Thermomix into her array of kitchen appliances this year. In 2015, she participated in a 50km walk for the Operation Flinders Charity

Julieann May - Dental Hygienist & Tooth Whitening Consultant

Julieann graduated from Gillies Plains TAFE, South Australia in 2006 with an Advanced Diploma in Dental Hygiene. She joined Lucas Dental as a new graduate and Dr Michael Lucas hasn’t been able to get her to leave since.

She has a strong interest in Orthodontics and has gained experience in this field by assisting Dr Tania Lucas in her Orthodontic endeavours along with working for an Orthodontist in the city when she is not working at Lucas Dental.

She is an active member of the DHAA – National and SA branch and has served as a councillor for the association.

She has a very calming nature and gets a great deal of satisfaction from enabling very nervous patients to gain control over their fears.

Julieann is married with two teenage daughters that keep her on her toes; we often hear her chatting with patients about stories of her family life.
